I'm just glad to see Eternal Warrior has been taken out of the equation. Means Typhus really is the definitive MC killer.

Well, I recieved all of my new Tyranids today in the post :D Even though the snow is terrible!

I must say, the new Codex is a treat, though Gaunts now seem so cheap that I can fit all of my 160 into a 1500 point game :o

And don't worry about all Warrior armies tbh ;)

But the real highlight are the new models for me

Heres a brief summary of my thoughts:

Trygon/ Mawloc

+The kit is well worth the £30 I paid for it
+Many options for a monster which previously had none
+Nice to have 3 options ;)
+Amazingly compatable with the Carnifex kit: playing about with a Fex kit, Trygon kit and blutack, I created a wild number of models
-Not so much the model, but could have had more options

Pyrovore

+Easy to glue
+Doesn't fall over (see below)
+Nice detail, especially on the cannon
-Seems to small for the huge base :?

Venomthrope

+Looks pretty awesome
+Brings a more alien quality to the army
+The detail on it is fantastic
-Took ages to stop it from falling over  , but slate worked in the end

Hive Guard

+Fits in with the army as it is
+A nice addition that has a fun gun to paint due to its uniqueness
+Glues perfectly
-There an exposed area of flesh between the hand and the gun which annoys me terrible because it looks rushed

Plastic Raveners

+Very compatable with the Warrior kit
+Sort of redesign which gives it a fresh feeling
+Very customisable
+Saves a lot compared to metals, and the are easy to glue too
-I don't like how the ranged weapons are now part of their chest, though I can easilt swap the lower arms with the weapons from other kits

Gargoyles

+Highlight of the release, makes Gargoyles playable again
+Light and so don't weigh a ton when transporting
+New look has my thumbs up
Fits in seamlessly with Gaunts
+Can be customised with other kits to make some interesting options
+Just :o Lovely!
+Cheap
-Not as many options as a Nid player would like, but still worth the money
-New look, although nice, means that old Gargoyles don't seem to fit in any more

Hope this helps if you have doubts on models

well, either of the choices would explain how he got them

1) He preordered and got it early as a reward
2) He knows someone that works for GW
3) He's making up his post
4) He lives in another country and they released early
5) He bribed the postman to steal em from someone important's mail

last one was funny.

i preordered as soon as they were available, so that cant be why he got his early. now, if mine comes today (mail hasnt come yet), then i'll let you guys know (and flyrant wont be lying).

I have a friend that works in Warhammer World in Nottingham ;) But he wasnt supposed to get them for me, so I'd better say no more ;)

But omg, I wish I'd bribed the postman to steal them

And I have to say, the new Codex works very well, though the Pyrovore does not play as well as I'd wished: so if you don't like the model but are thinking of getting it for gaming: don't

Though it's still nice to see the model beside some Biovores, its like it's their big brother or something

If you've pre-ordered, you can get them up to a week early, so get excited :D

Since you have the codex, can we get the new mind powers and effects of those listed?

Ok, here's the powers, even though they're pretty much the same as what Zaha has already posted

Tyrant, Warriors, Zoanthrope and Trygon Prime

Shadow in the Warp - It makes units within 12 inches roll 3 d6 for Psychic Tests

Tyrant

Free

Psychic Scream - Units within 18 inches take a Leadership test, and suffer the number of casualties equal to the difference in the results (ie Result of test - Untis Leadership = Number of casualties) No armour saves are allowed, but invulnerability saves are, as well as cover

The Horror - is the same as before I'm sure

Life Leech - as Zaha said previously, d3 Strength 8 AP 2. The Hive Tyrant also does regain the wounds inflicted up to it's maximum of 4

Paroxysm - Units within 12 inches have their WS and BS reduced to 1

Swarmlord - A character Tyrant

Unspeakable Horror - Units that charge or shoot the Tyrant must take a Leadership test, If they fail their charge or shot is negated

Old Adversary - All Tyranids within 6 inches of the Swarmlord have Preferred Enemy :D

Tervigon

Domination - As Zaha said, the Synapse range of the Tervigon is 18 inches for a turn rather than 12

Broodlord

Aura of Despair - Zaha you were correct, -1 Leadership to units within 6 inches

Hypnotic Gaze - makes both players roll a d6 and add the Leaderhip of a model chosen by the Tyranid player. If the result of the Tyranid player is the same or higher than the opponents, the chosen unit cannot fight back in close combat in the Tyranid players turn that it is used

Zoanthrope

Ranged shots are as follows:

Warp Blast, which has the following profile: Strength 6, AP3 and Assault 1, blast - range 24 inches
Warp Lance, which has a Strength 10, AP1 and Assault 1, with the Lance rule - range of 18 inches

Hope this is of interest to you all :-D

definetely. Warp blast was a tank killer before but now that its a lance weapon.

The only thing I don't quite understand is the broodlords second ability, because you use abilities during your own turn, so does that mean a unit who is affected by it (lost to the tyranid player) can not fight back in close combat?

Yes Harpu, that is the rule, I'll amend my post to make it more clear

Sorry for that :)

I really can't wait to play with this Codex, so I might get a game this weekend and tell you how the Codex works with an ex-6000 point army (now only 5000, but can't say any more due to GW policy) against some Dark Angels Space Marines :D
