5th Edition Codex Suggestions Thread

Postby Zaha on Mon Jan 11, 2010 2:20 am

New Codex, new ideas. If you really need to tell us, tell us here. :P

I'm gonna lay a few cards on the table so people have some idea of what we're already thinking. Most of this probably won't appear in 0.5, but once 0.5 is out, most of these changes shouldn't take too long.

We only need to deal with two types of gaunts now (since spinegaunts are just termagants with an upgrade), so that ought to free up space in the gaunt hive for new buttons.

The Broodlord is almost certainly gonna be moved off to be a lieutenant upgrade for Genestealers, the Tyranid Prime is probably gonna be the new early hero unit.

Yes, we're considering including the Tervigon, and yes we can make it poop termies while it's on the move for whatever cost we'd like.

as said in the FAQ, we are not doing a guard unit. Post deleted to avoid side topic of "we aren't"

I think that you can't include many of the new units, except maybe as an upgrade to one of the current units, like a tyranid prime as an upgraded warrior or a pyrovore as an upgraded biovore, perhaps using some influence special ability to upgrade them.

Would the Dawn of War engine alow you to make the Tervigon constantly spawn free Termagaunts because that would be awesome! :D If you were to implement the Mawloc and/or Trygon Prime you could make the Mawloc your 'base' relic unit which then gets upgraded to the Trygon and finally the Trygon Prime. I think the Tyrannofex would be one of the easiest to program as it has no new special abilites plus a mobile, gun-base would be useful in Dawn of War. Just my thoughts.

On a somewhat less serious note. WHOOT the codex is out! YEAH! :D

the mawloc could be a second option for relic unit. the mawloc wouldnt be as good as the trygon in combat, but it could burrow more often, and cause alot of knockdown+damage to enemy units it comes up near.

the tyranofex would have be a 3rd option. it would be like a nid land raider :P

what? you going to change the broodlord?

isn't it simpler if you instead of removing the broodlord, moves the hive tyrant to T3 (he is seen as "to powerful" for T2 anyway) and then put the new comander unit as the new T2 commander?

because i like the broodlord as the first commander. just something to think about..

Well Broodlords do seem to be a "one per brood" thing rather than a "one per army" thing now. It seems like a way to streamline things.

That said, we're not set on any of these things just yet.

I personally like the BL going to a lieutenant for stealers.

The Broodlord change makes sense in a way. It not being a commander unit will just take some getting used to.

I just wish they picked a better name than "Tyranid Prime". It's just so dull.

Any decisions about the Venomthrope and the Pyrovore?
