More than likely you have something overlapping in the texture map. But it is kind of weird that the pink spots appear to be exactly in the middle of each spike so it could be something else.

They look like this because I created a specific teamcolour that looked somewhat fine for screenshot purposes. They're all f#*ed up :P

When that happens this is what I would do, assuming you use GIMP:
Backup the textures just in case.

1) Open the file with the spikes on in, then go to layer > transparency > add alpha channel.
2) Use 'select by color tool' to select any black area and press delete; only 'team coloured' areas should remain.
3) Select all then copy what's left of the entire texture onto another texture such as primary, then (while the copied area is still selected) use the 'pencil tool' to colour the copied texture completely black (increasing 'scale' to 10 will help).
4) If the specks are still there then repeat 1 - 3 for another texture.

Hope that solves the issue. :)

It looks like that corner of the UV shell for the spike was too close to another shell (possibly the tongue or something of similar color). I try to put as much space as possible between shells but this map was very tightly packed.

If you've fixed it then that's fine. Let me know if it comes up again later and I'll find a solid fix.

when you unwrap the model for texturing, you make different groups of UVs for different parts of the models. These groups of UVs are commonly referred to as "shells".

I see, no one has ever referred to the groups as shells at my college, but thank you for that info, I will definitely remember.
